1989 Biomeda Ltd was established on 8 December 1989 as a limited liability company with 48% German shares and 52 % Bulgarian shares. The long-term objective of the company was the manufacturing of herbal medicinal products. The company operated as an importer of finished medicinal products, substances for the pharmaceutical industry, reagents and consumables for analytical laboratories.
1993 The first consignment agreement was executed with Knoll, Germany. A warehouse facility was opened in the city of Sofia. Biomeda Ltd became a member of the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
1994 BiomedaLtd. was reorganized from a Bulgarian-German company into a 100% Bulgarian company. The Biomeda shareholders are Mrs. Dona Koleva, Mr. Milan Pargov and Mr. Ruen Ivanov. Biomeda was granted a manufacturing license for solid medicine forms and it started its manufacturing business.
1995 The manufacturing of Rytmonorm under license began.
1996 The manufacturing of Dilzem under license began. The product was out of production after Geodecke Parke Davis was bought by Pfizer, due to changes in commercial policy and withdrawal of the original product form the Bulgarian market. Biomeda Ltd was granted the complete license for wholesale in medicinal products.
1997 Biomeda Ltd became a member of the National Branch Chamber of Wholesalers in Medicinal Products. It was declared the Taxpayer of the year. A new warehouse facility was opened in the town of Burgas.
1999 Biomeda Ltd was awarded the statuette of honour for its contribution to medicine supply in Bulgaria by the National Branch Chamber of Wholesalers in Medicinal Products. Medicinal products were registered in Russia, Georgia, Armenia, and Latvia. A consignment agreement was executed with Berlin Chemie.
2000 In application of the requirements of the Law on Medicinal Products in Human Medicine, a separate legal entity was formed out of the manufacturing company Biomeda Ltd, namely Biomeda 2000 Ltd. It was established as a wholesaler in medicinal products and goods related to human health. It was announced the Taxpayer of the year. A new warehouse facility was opened in Plovdiv. Biomeda 2000 Ltd was granted permission for customs storage.
2001 Consignment agreements were executed with Abbott, Hexal (Sandoz) and Yamanouchi (Astelas).
2002 Biomeda 2000 Ltd was declared the Taxpayer of the year. A framework agreement was executed with the National Health Insurance Fund.
2003 Biomeda 2000 Ltd was entered into the Economic Yearbook of the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce, Plovdiv, among the 100 companies within the district of Plovdiv with the largest contribution to the district development. On 18 December it was granted a license to open a new warehouse facility in Varna.
2004 Biomeda 2000 Ltd entered into an exclusivity agreement for import and distribution of Selsun Blue in Bulgaria. Three warehouse facilities were opened – in Stara Zagora, Pleven and Ruse.
2005 Biomeda 2000 Ltd was granted authorization by the Ministry of Health and was included in the list of wholesalers entitled to import medicinal products not allowed to use in the Republic of Bulgaria. A consignment agreement was executed as well as exclusivity agreements for import and distribution of the products of Stallergenes and Ebewe Pharma GmbH in Bulgaria.
2006 Foreign companies initiated negotiations with Biomeda 2000 Ltd for "joint venture". Biomeda 2000 Ltd entered into five Contracts with the Ministry of Health for centralized supply of medicinal products.
2007 With relation to Bulgaria joining the European Union, consignment agreements for customs storage were terminated. A preliminary agreement was signed with Elder Pharmaceuticals Ltd for the purchase of 51% of the shares of Biomeda 2000 Ltd.
2008 A preliminary agreement was signed with Elder Pharmaceuticals Ltd for the purchase of additional 10% of the shares of Biomeda 2000 Ltd. In application of the new European requirements of the Law on Medicinal Products in Human Medicine, Biomeda 2000 Ltd was granted a new License for wholesale in medicinal products, License for activities involving narcotic substances for medicinal purposes, License for wholesale in medical devices, License for wholesale in foods and food supplements. Biomeda 2000 Ltd was also granted authorization by the Ministry of Health for import and distribution of medicinal products not allowed to use in Bulgaria.
2009г On 12 February 2009 Elder Biomeda AD acquired 100% of the shares of Biomeda 2000 Ltd. Mr. Ruen Ivanov was appointed the Manager of Biomeda 2000 Ltd. The five-year expansion plan of the company was adopted.
